Fulham held on to beat Liverpool 3-2 at Craven Cottage, with the Premier League leaders failing to open up a 14-point gap at the top of the table.

The hosts staged a first-half comeback to stun Arne Slot’s side, who were on a 26-match unbeaten streak in the top-flight, after Alexis Mac Allister broke the deadlock with a brilliant long-range strike against the run of play.

Ryan Sessegnon volleyed Fulham level, pouncing on an awkward block by Curtis Jones before Alex Iwobi profited from more slack defending.

Andy Robertson gifted Iwobi the ball on the edge of the box, and after Liverpool failed to clear their lines, the left-back inadvertently teed him up again to give the Cottagers the lead.

Rodrigo Muniz then gave them some breathing space with another fine finish, after turning Virgil van Dijk with an inspired touch, all within 15 minutes.

A much-improved Liverpool searched for a way back, with substitute Luis Diaz offering them hope as he pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute.

However, they could not find a late equaliser despite their pressure, with Harvey Elliott’s whipped effort against the crossbar the closest they came.

Liverpool remain 11 points ahead of Arsenal at the top of the table, needing 11 more points to win the league, while Fulham move up to eighth, having provided a major boost to their European hopes.

Data Debrief: Champions elect stumble

Liverpool may feel their second-half performance merited a reward, but Fulham were deserving winners on Sunday.

The Reds suffered only their second Premier League defeat of the season, a run that dated back to September – a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at home.

Meanwhile, it was their first loss on the road since April 2024, ending a 17-game unbeaten streak away from home in the top-flight.

As for Fulham, this was their first Premier League win over the side starting the day top of the table since March 2009 against Manchester United (2-0). Since then, the only other time they had avoided defeat in such a game was in the reverse fixture this season (2-2 at Anfield).
