The New England Revolution were unable to leapfrog Orlando City in the Eastern Conference’s playoff spots in the MLS, after they played out a 1-1 draw on Wednesday.

Revolution captain Carles Gil scored for the hosts at Gillette Stadium in a sweeping counter-attack, receiving the ball from Gustavo Bou in space and curling home from just outside the penalty area in the 22nd minute.

Orlando tallied 13 shots to New England’s nine but it only made up for a cumulative xG of 0.68 against 1.31. Roby Jansson made up for what little they created in open play, finishing in the 35th minute after New England failed to clear their lines from a corner.

Oscar Pareja’s side stayed in fifth in the Eastern Conference on 22 points with the draw, maintaining their two-point gap to the Revolution in sixth.
