Gundogan rules out Liverpool move

As Ilkay Gundogan’s contract at Manchester City draws closer to its expiration date at the end of the season, his future remains uncertain.

The Germany international himself isn’t able to say whether he’d be staying at the Etihad or playing somewhere else in 2023/24, and him pointing out that the future of manager Pep Guardiola is uncertain as well seems to indicate a possible connection between the two issues. But one thing Gundogan did openly rule out is leaving the reigning Premier League champions to join his former coach at Borussia Dortmund, Jurgen Klopp, at Liverpool.

Gundogan was brought to the Signal Iduna Park by Klopp in 2011 and helped his team win the Bundesliga the following season. The pair worked together for three years before Klopp left the club, and joined Liverpool several months later.

Having moved to the Etihad in 2016, Gundogan has so far made 273 appearances for City in all competitions, scoring 51 goals and producing 35 assists.
