Hampton sidelined for ´a few weeks´ with quad injury

Hannah Hampton will be out “for a few weeks” with a quad injury, Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor has confirmed.

The England goalkeeper suffered the setback during the Blues’ draw with Arsenal last weekend, and missed their Champions League victory over St. Polten on Tuesday.

Hampton has kept four clean sheets in the Women’s Super League this season, more than any other goalkeeper.

However, Bompastor confirmed Chelsea will have to make do without the 24-year-old for the time being.

“She picked up a quad injury,” the head coach said. “She will be out for a few weeks. We’ll see if we can see her before the end of the year, but I’m not sure.”

Hampton is also likely to miss England’s friendlies against China on November 29 and Ghana three days later.

“It could be the case, yes,” Bompastor added when asked if the goalkeeper would be absent for the Lionesses.

Livia Peng, who replaced Hampton against St. Polten, is likely to deputise between the sticks in her team-mate’s absence.

Chelsea are second in the WSL table, a point behind leaders Manchester City, and have the chance to break the record for the longest unbeaten streak in the competition’s history against Liverpool on Sunday.
