Havertz too expensive for Chelsea?

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea are the favourites in the race for the signature of Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz, but they appear to be put off somewhat by the huge fee they are being asked to pay.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder was on impressive form throughout the 2019/20 season, scoring 17 goals and assisting nine more in 43 appearances in all competitions. His obvious quality has drawn attention from top clubs around Europe, including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Liverpool, but it is believed he could follow in the footsteps of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, who is leaving Germany to join Chelsea.

However, Leverkusen’s asking price is currently a ‘sticking point’ for the Londoners. Leverkusen want nothing short of €100 million to let him leave the BayArena, which Chelsea don’t seem willing to pay at the moment. Nonetheless, the player and his representatives are hopeful that an agreement to suit all parties will be found, perhaps in the form of a lower fee with significant add-ons.
