Hughes delays contract renewals

Queens Park Rangers boss Mark Hughes has ruled out the prospect of contract talks with several senior players until the end of the season.

Akos Buszaky, Clint Hill and reserve goalkeeper Radek Cerny all have deals which expire at the end of this season, whilst first-choice gloveman Paddy Kenny has yet to begin negotiations, which were due to start in February.

Despite having recently tied youngster Hogan Ephraim to a new deal, Hughes has revealed that he will not enter into discussions with other players in order to focus on his side’s bid for Premier League survival.

HUghes told West London Sport: “In the case of Hogan Ephraim we felt we wanted to protect the club’s long-term interests.

“With the more senior players I’m not yet in a position to have those types of conversations with them.

“It’s something we’ll look to address at the end of the season. Until then we need to focus on our target, which has to be to get the points we need in order to stay in the Premier League.

“There are a number of players with situations to be resolved but they understand that at this moment in time our focus is on the games coming up.”

QPR sit one place outside the relegation zone, with just goal difference separating them from 18th-placed Blackburn.
