Cristiano Ronaldo believes he is the greatest footballer to grace the game, insisting he has “never seen anyone better”.

Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, is now plying his trade in Saudi Arabia following hugely successful stints at Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus.

The Portugal captain turns 40 on February 5, and is the all-time leading goalscorer in history, having netted 923 times.

Ronaldo also holds the record for the most international goals, scoring 135 times for Portugal in 217 appearances.

And Ronaldo does not think any other player in history can match him.

“Honestly, I have never seen anyone better than me. I believe I am the most complete player to ever exist,” said Ronaldo in an interview with La Sexta.

“I can do it all in football. I’m good with heading, I strike free-kicks well, I shoot well with my left foot, I’m fast, and I’m strong.

“Personal preferences vary; some prefer [Lionel] Messi, Pele, or [Diego] Maradona. I understand and respect that. But to say Cristiano isn’t complete is a lie. I am the most complete.

“I am the best [goalscorer] in history. If I reach 1,000 goals, great. If not, that’s fine too. Numbers don’t lie.”

Ronaldo is the leading appearance maker at the World Cup and Euros combined (52), and the leading goalscorer in those combined competitions (22).

He is also the top goalscorer in the Champions League, having plundered 140 goals in 183 matches.

At Madrid, Ronaldo scored 450 goals, which is Los Blancos’ club record.

“I could quit the sport today and I wouldn’t regret anything, but it would be a shame because I’m still very good, I’m still making a difference,” added Ronaldo.

“I would leave myself saying ‘I can still make a difference for another year or two’, that’s why I live very much in the present and I can’t think long term.”
