Inter boss Conte dismisses Messi links

Inter Milan head coach Antonio Conte has completely dismissed the rumours linking his club with a move for Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

The 32-year-old Argentinian reportedly had a clause in his contract which enabled him to leave the Camp Nou after each season as a free agent, though it was never really expected he would take it up. However, the contract is set to expire next summer, and while Barcelona are hopeful a new one will be signed soon, it seems a few internal affairs at the club will have to be sorted first, possibly including the upcoming presidential elections.

Headline hunting media outlets took advantage of the current situation to muse on Messi’s potential destinations, should he finally decide to leave the club he’s been playing for since the start of his career, and Inter has been mentioned in that aspect.

However, speaking to the press after his team’s win over Genoa on Saturday, Conte was very clear in stating Messi would not be coming to Inter.

“We’re talking about fantasy football, situations that at the moment cannot be linked to Inter. For many reasons”, he said (as per AS).
