Southampton fullback Cedrick Soares has been playing for Inter Milan on loan since January, with the deal including an option to buy. However, Tuttosport claim that the Serie A side have decided not to pursue the option but to look at the possibility of signing Matteo Darmian from Manchester United instead.
Having spent three and a half years at the south of England and made 118 appearances for the Saints in all competitions, Cedric looked for a chance to move to a bigger club and earned a six-month trial with the Nerazzurri. However, it seems it hasn’t gone well for him there and he may be back at St. Mary’s quicker than he had hoped. His contract with Southampton doesn’t expire before the summer of 2020.
Despite United not opting to trigger a contract extension to keep Antonio Valencia past the summer, Darmian still faces tough competition for his position at Old Trafford in the form of Ashley Young and Diogo Dalot. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has impressed so far during his trial run for the managerial post at United, recently expressed belief that Darmian would be staying nonetheless.
