Isco set for Betis switch?

After nine years in the Spanish capital, Isco is set to leave Real Madrid as a free agent this summer. According to multiple reports from Spain, the attacking midfielder has a principle agreement in place with Real Betis on a two-year contract with an option on a third.

Having arrived from Malaga in 2013, Isco never really managed to establish himself as a regular starter, though his presence was rather significant during Zinedine Zidane’s first stint in charge of the team as Gareth Bale fell out of favour with the Frenchman. Highly rated though he’s always been, his versatility appeared to be working against him as he was used as a backup option suitable of filling in at several places on the pitch.

This term, the 30-year-old started only three La Liga matches as Carlo Ancelotti’s side stroll towards the title.

Manuel Pellegrini, currently in charge at Betis, is believed to be the man pushing for the deal to happen. However, it might prove necessary for Betis to qualify for the Champions League in order to complete the Isco transfer, and there’s a lot of work to be done on that front with Pellegrini’s team currently sitting fifth in La Liga, four points behind Atletico Madrid in fourth.
