Coach Cesare Prandelli has been ‘touched’ by a letter from Italy president, Giorgio Napolitano.

Italy have defied the doubters and exceeded all expectations by reaching the final of Euro 2012, where they will play defending champions Spain on Sunday night.

Napolitano echoed the thoughts of millions of Italians, hailing the coach and his players for their determination, commitment and spirit.

Prandelli has now revealed that he intends to use the president’s letter to rally his troops ahead of kick-off in Kiev.

“He has found fabulous words and I cannot wait to read it to the players,” the former Fiorentina coach told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

“I hope we can meet his expectations. I was very touched when I read the letter and I do feel that he is with us. He has already supported us throughout the tournament wonderfully well.”
