January 4th: Wednesday’s Football Accumulator – 11/1

With Europe’s elite once again taking center stage in midweek, we look set for what is a stacked schedule from across the continent. So, for those of you looking to stick on a Wednesday acca, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Wednesday January 4th

BST 13:30 Torino vs Verona

Heading into the World Cup’s festive break with a rugged 1-1 draw away at Roma on November 13th, Torino should open 2023 with the mood in their camp at a high. With another top-half finish at the top of their agenda in the New Year, the Bulls will be confident of marking their Serie A return with a flurry on Wednesday afternoon. Gaining plenty of praise from across Italy over the past 18 months, Ivan Juric’s side have now lost just one of their previous six top-flight contests. With that run highlighted by a stellar 2-1 victory against AC Milan when signing off October, Torino have also gained a reputation for their eye-catching displays on home soil. In fact, the midweek hosts have won each of their last three straight showdowns in Piedmont by an aggregate score of 8-1. Potentially looking to make up some ground in the European chase here, Juric’s men will be looking to cash in on a Verona squad who are enduring a rather public Serie A struggle. Marking their return on Wednesday sat rock-bottom of the table and managing to put just five points on the board from their 15 appearances, the Mastiffs should also be worried by their most recent meetings against Torino. With the Bulls clinching back-to-back 1-0 victories last season, a similar home win can be found at generous odds here.

Tip: Torino win @ 5/6

17:30 Cremonese vs Juventus

While Juventus might still be dealing with a host of issues behind the scenes, the Italian giants did enter the World Cup’s winter break enjoying a domestic purple patch. Last seen on Serie A duties back on November 13th as they cruised their way to a stellar 3-0 romp at home against Lazio, Wednesday’s guests had really started to skyrocket their way up the table. Although Massimiliano Allegri’s side might have endured a Champions League nightmare this season, the Old Lady have won each of their previous six top-flight contests – a run that stems all the way back to October 8th. With their rampant run underlined by a 2-0 win against Inter Milan, Juve had also gained a reputation for their defensive steel. In fact, Allegri’s men had remarkably kept a clean sheet in each of those six consecutive victories. Sat in pole position to secure another top-four finish in 2023, Cremonese will be bracing themselves for a huge test in midweek. Although Wednesday’s hosts might have made a Serie A return this season, it appears that the Tigers are freefalling towards an immediate second-tier return. Last seen heading into the interval with a toothless 2-0 loss away at Empoli on November 11th, Massimiliano Alvini’s are yet to claim a single Serie A win from any of their first 15 attempts. Given the huge recent gulf in class, we’re backing an away victory here.

Tip: Juventus win to nil @ 33/20

19:45 Leeds vs West Ham

While Leeds might have struggled to find much stability on either side of the World Cup break, Wednesday’s hosts should be boosted by a rugged display on New Year’s Eve. Eventually snatching a 0-0 stalemate away at a high-flying Newcastle and drawing a line under the Magpies’ six-match winning run, Jesse Marsch’s side will know that they face a must-win showdown here. Claiming just a pair of wins from any of their last 13 Premier League matchups, it appears that the former RB Leipzig boss is under some real scrutiny. However, desperate to push themselves away from a potential relegation scrap, the Yorkshire-based outfit will be excited by their most recent showdown against their fellow bottom-three scrappers. Claiming an action-packed 3-2 win when they made the trip to east London 12 months ago, Leeds will be calling on a similar display at Elland Road. On the flip side, now marking their return from the World Cup break with back-to-back losses against Arsenal and Brentford, West Ham are firmly at the heart of a crisis. Remarkably losing each of their last five Premier League contests, David Moyes’ position at the London Stadium is quickly becoming untenable. Despite breaking the bank over the summer, the former Manchester United boss has seen his side show a string of issues at both ends of the pitch.

Tip: Leeds win @ 17/11
