Joao Pedro pens new Watford deal

Joao Pedro has signed a new contract with Watford, set to keep him at the Vicarage for the next six years, the club have officially confirmed.

With his old deal entering its final 12 months this summer, the 20-year-old striker was reportedly targeted throughout the transfer window by Everton, who were looking to replace Richarlison, and Newcastle, who needed to boost their attacking ranks with a young player and eventually signed Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad. Even with the window long closed, a number of clubs are believed to have been watching developments closely with a view of a swoop in the near future.

However, Pedro, who has so far bagged two goals and two assists in nine Championship appearances for the Hornets, has put the rumours to bed for the time being by reiterating his commitment to Watford for the foreseeable future. A transfer is still possible, of course, but the price at which it might happen will have gone up by tens of millions of pounds.
