Jorginho set for Chelsea future talks

Jorginho has recently lost his place in the Chelsea starting XI under Frank Lampard. He hasn’t started any of the games the Londoners have so far played since football came back from the three-month break, and he only made a brief, 10-minute cameo in their win over Crystal Palace on Tuesday. His quality was still there to be seen, as his introduction and ability to dictate play from deep immediately put Chelsea on the front foot in the match.

However, Lampard explained his absences from the team by pointing out that he demands more versatility from his midfielders in order to get a more fluid system, whereas Jorginho is a deep-lying specialist. It has become obvious that the 28-year-old simply doesn’t tick the right boxes, and according to The Athletic, his representatives are set to hold talks with club director Marina Granovskaia over the possibilities for his future. The Italy international has been linked with Juventus, where the man who took him from Napoli to Chelsea, Maurizio Sarri, is now in charge, but there has been no contact from the Serie A champions as of yet.

Jorginho’s contract expires in 2023.
