Although the major domestic leagues may not be back just yet, that doesn’t mean that we’re short of footballing action from across the globe. With the semi-finals of the World Cup underway and the MLS really starting to heat up, we have found a handful of bets that can help boost your midweek footballing acca.

Wednesday 11th July

19:00 BST Croatia vs England

With a nation now believing, although Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions are still the youngest and most inexperienced side at this summers World Cup finals, England have now reached their first semi-finals since 1990 and find their confidence at an all-time high. Coming off the back of a dominant 2-0 win over Sweden in the quarter-finals, The Whites have lost just two of their last 30 competitive matches (W22, D6) since losing their first two matches at the 2014 World Cup. With both of Croatia’s last two World Cup outings going all the way to penalties against both Denmark and hosts Russia, no team in the tournament has played more minutes than The Blazers. With England captain Harry Kane stealing the headlines as he leads the goalscoring charts with six already this summer, Southgate’s men are a huge threat from set pieces, something Croatia have struggled with. Eight of England’s 11 goals have been scored via set-pieces – the most in a single World Cup since Portugal in 1966. This will also be just the second meeting between the two nations, they have met once before at a major tournament – England won 4-2 in a group stage match at Euro 2004.

Tip: England win @ 27/20

Thursday 12th July

00:00 New York City FC vs Montreal Impact

Coming off the back of a 1-0 win in the Hudson River derby last time out, former Manchester City coach Domènec Torrent could not have wished for a better start to his tenure at Yankee Stadium. Although his new Sky Blues may be without top scorer David Villa, New York City have enjoyed a stellar record when playing at home. Along with losing one of just their eight matchups against The Impact, the hosts on Thursday morning have not lost a single matchup at Yankee Stadium in their last nine appearances, a run stemming back to the start of February. Now currently sat second in the Eastern Conference and two games in hand over Atlanta, while we do believe New York will come away with the win, New York have kept just one clean sheet in their last four and we do fancy a revitalized Montreal side to also find the net. For former Aston Villa boss Remi Garde, despite sitting bottom of the table for most the year, The Impact have bounced back and the visitors are coming off the back of a 2-1 win over Colorado that now means they have won their last four matches on the bounce, seeing them climb up the rankings. Backing a New York win and both teams to score at 15/8 seems like the most logical bet here.

Tip: Home win and both teams to score @ 15/8

01:30 Chicago Fire vs Philadelphia Union

Starting with the hosts, led by former Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, Chicago have enjoyed an impressive run of form of late and although they are coming off the back of 3-2 loss away to Vancouver Whitecaps last week, a win will see The Reds jump back into the playoff positions and have now lost no other matchup since May. Looking to carry on his own impressive run of form is 27-year-old Aleksandar Katai, the Chicago Fire #10 has been a huge part of The Fire’s late push. The Serbian attacking midfielder is Chicago’s joint top scorer with eight goals in this campaign and Katai now has five in his last six in all competitions and has also scored three in his last three at Toyota Park. Coming up against a Philadelphia side who have now shipped six in their last two, the former Levante man should be confident of improving on his recent record.

Tip: Aleksandar Katai to score anytime @ 9/4
