Klopp wants Otavio at Liverpool

Liverpool are interested in signing Porto’s Otavio, according to reports in Portugal. As claimed by A Bola, manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed a direct request for the club to move for the 26-year-old attacking midfielder from Brazil.

Apparently, the Merseysiders could sign Otavio by triggering his release clause of €40 million, but they have to act quickly because the clause rises to €60m at the end of the month. They could use Marko Grujic, who impressed last season on loan at Porto, as a makeweight, with the Portuguese side keen on securing the Serbian’s services on a permanent basis.

Otavio rose through the youth ranks and became a professional player at Brazilian side Internacional. He made his way to Porto in 2014 and had an 18-month loan spell with Vitoria Guimaraes. In 2020-21, he made a total of 42 appearances for Porto, scoring five goals and making 12 assists.

Liverpool need to strengthen their midfield ranks following the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum. The Dutch international, who was one of their most prominent players in the last five years, has joined Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.
