Lambert silent on future plans

Norwich City manager Paul Lambert has refused to answer questions regarding the future of captain Grant Holt or himself.

The 42-year-old boss was at Carrow Road on Tuesday night to watch his side beat Scottish Premier League champions Celtic 2-0 in Adam Drury’s testimonial.

Holt, who started the testimonial upfront, had handed in a transfer request only to have it rejected by the club last week, while Lambert himself said he ignored the recently speculation linking him with the Aston Villa job, but stopped short of stating he would remain with the Canaries after the summer.

“There is no point asking me. I am telling you I am not answering it. I know what is going on but this is Adam’s game,” Lambert said after the match.

“It is not about Grant, it is not about me, it is about Adam Drury.

“This isn’t the night for those questions. Don’t ask me negative things about me or Grant.”

Lambert has been heavily linked with the vacant managerial post at Villa Park after guiding his Norwich side to 12th in the Premier League in their first season back since promotion from the Championship.

But the Scot was in no mood to comment on any speculation about the job.

“I am delighted I am at Norwich if that is what you are asking,” he said.

“I have never said a word that I want to get away. Not a thing and people jump to conclusions about what I say or don’t say.”

However, the night belonged to Drury, who joined the Canaries in 2001 and has gone on to make over 300 appearances for the side.

The 33-year-old is, though, yet to discover whether he will continue at Carrow Road into next season with his contract up for renewal.

When asked about Drury’s future, Lambert said: “I have had a chat with him and he knows what is going on.

“Adam is thinking about a few things and I will see what he thinks in the next few days, I am sure.

“Tonight was fitting for somebody who has been here for 11 years, and to get Celtic down here with their fans certainly makes for an atmosphere.

“In the three years I have been here, Adam has been brilliant.”
