Looking to capitalize on Espanyol’s woeful form entering the New Year, a resurgent Leganes will travel to the RCDE Stadium on Friday.

Starting with Rubi’s struggling Espanyol side, coming off the back of a 1-0 loss away at Atletico Madrid in their final match of 2018, Periquitos have now lost their last six La Liga outings on the bounce and many believe Rubi’s time at the RCDE Stadium is drawing to an abrupt ending. Still looking for their first win since the 4th of November, their form in the final third has been Espanyol’s biggest concern this season. During their four matches in December, Friday’s hosts just managed to record one top-flight goal. To make matters worse, the White and Blacks have now lost their last three matches in Catalunya.

As for the visitors, while Espanyol might be struggling with their form entering 2019, Leganes are enjoying a very bright run of form under former Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino. Picking up a 1-1 draw with Sevilla before the Christmas break, Los Pepineros are yet to be beaten in any competition in their last eight outings. If there is one area, in particular, that will be impressing Pellegrino, that will be their form away from the Estadio Municipal de Butarque. Along with picking up a 1-0 win away to Rayo Vallecano to book their spot in the next round of the Copa del Rey, Friday’s hosts are unbeaten in their last four matches on the road.
