Leipzig trigger permanent Angelino deal

Angelino played his fifth game in the second half of the season for RB Leipzig on Friday evening when he and his teammates beat Augsburg at the Red Bull Arena by 2-1, and according to multiple sources, his appearance in that match has now triggered Leipzig’s obligation to buy at the end of his loan loan spell from Manchester City. The sum agreed for the deal stands at €18 million (around £16m).

The 23-year-old has been on excellent form for the Bundesliga side, making a total of 29 appearances (all as part of the starting XI) in all competitions, scoring eight goals and racking up 11 assists.

Meanwhile, with no Angelino in his ranks and with Benjamin Mendy struggling with injuries and form, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been forced to utilize 24-year-old midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko on the left defensive flank. The fact that Angelino wasn’t given a proper chance to prove his worth at the Etihad remains a puzzle for many, but Guardiola obviously knows what he’s doing given that his team are top of the Premier League table at the moment and in a very promising position when it comes to winning the title.
