As confirmed by the club themselves, Lille have completed the signing of former Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes. The deal is set to run through until 2025, but he won’t be starting out with Lille straight away. Instead, he’ll be heading out on loan for the 2020/21 campaign with Boavista.
Gomes was always viewed as someone who had a whole lot of potential at Old Trafford, but for whatever reason, things just didn’t quite work out for him. The two parties couldn’t come to any sort of concrete agreement, and as such, they decided to walk away.
From the ashes of that disappointment for Gomes, though, comes hope. Lille are attempting to build a real structure, to the point where many believe they could be contenders for the title in the next few years and beyond.
Regardless of whether or not that comes to fruition, it’s certainly something to get excited about.
