Liverpool consider Ben White after Van Dijk injury

Liverpool were among the clubs linked with Brighton and Hove defender Ben White during the summer transfer window. They made no move in the end with Jurgen Klopp reportedly happy with his options at the start of the season despite the departure of Dejan Lovren to Zenit St Petersburg. On the other hand, Leeds United, where White spent last season on loan, reportedly saw several offers for his services rejected.

But according to the Mirror, the situation has changed drastically after Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford injured Virgil van Dijk in the Merseyside Derby on Saturday. The brilliant Dutchman will likely miss the remaining part of the season through an ACL tear, leaving Klopp with only two natural senior centre-backs in the team in Joel Matip and Joe Gomez. Midfielder Fabinho has been known to do a good job in the heart of defence too, but his prowess will be needed in the middle of the park.

Liverpool are now assessing White and contemplating an offer for the January transfer window, though they are slightly concerned about his deficiencies in the air. Nonetheless, the 23-year-old apparently rates highly in Liverpool’s ‘sophisticated data metrics’.
