According to Sport1, Liverpool wanted to sign Edmond Tapsoba from Bayer Leverkusen on transfer deadline day. It has been reported that the defending Premier League champions enquired about the Burkina Faso international central defender before securing the services of Ozan Kabak on loan from Schalke.
Liverpool were looking for a new centre-back following long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. Both the centre-backs are unlikely to play again this season, while Joel Matip has also been ruled out for the rest of the season. Fabinho has been playing in central defence this season despite being a defensive midfielder by trade, and even Jordan Henderson has played in defence on occasions this campaign.
The Merseyside club signed not one but two new centre-backs on transfer deadline day. While Kabak joined on loan from Schalke, Ben Davies moved from Championship club Preston North End.
