Liverpool are considering moving in for Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri, according to various outlets including the Times, the Guardian, the Mirror and many others.
The Swiss international reportedly has a relegation release clause set at around £12million which would make him a low-risk signing for the Reds.
Jürgen Klopp is looking to bolster his attacking options as the trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane had to carry the torch up front with little rest throughout the 2017/18 season. However, he’s not looking to sign a classic centre-forward, but rather a versatile attacker that can deputize successfully anywhere across the front three, and Shaqiri seems to fit that bill.
The 26-year-old winger boasts pace, strength and a powerful shot which makes him a dangerous set-piece taker and for such a low fee he could do the job Liverpool need him for. It should be said, however, that Shaqiri is not seen as an alternative for Nabil Fekir who the Reds remain keen on, but an addition to improve the squad depth.
