Speaking to the press ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Manchester United on Sunday, manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed he has no plans to sign defensive reinforcements in January.
The Reds face a difficult situation when it comes to defenders. Halfway through the hectic schedule set to last throughout December, they’ve lost three defenders to injury, namely Joe Gomez who suffered a fracture of the lower left leg against Burnley, Joel Matip who farctured his collar bone in the Champions League showdown against Napoli, and Trent Alexander-Arnold who left the pitch in that game with a foot problem.
This leaves Klopp only with Dejan Lovren and Virgil van Dijk as the senior options in the central defensive positions, and without both his first and second choice for the right-back slot. That means we’re likely to see either James Milner or Fabinho in that role against United.
Klopp said he won’t be looking to add players in that department in the winter because none of the absentees will be out for long enough for that to make sense.
