Lyon 2-0 Nice: Tolisso and Nartey help hosts close gap at Ligue 1 summit

Lyon kept the pressure on Paris Saint-Germain and Lens at the top of Ligue 1 as goals in either half from Corentin Tolisso and Noah Nartey sealed a 2-0 victory over Nice.

Lyon moved within six points of second-placed PSG, who were beaten by Rennes on Friday, while also recording their seventh consecutive league victory in the process.

Nice’s fast start was almost rewarded in the 22nd minute when Sofiane Diop was slipped in behind Lyon’s defence, but his shot was smothered by the on-rushing Dominik Greif.

Tom Louchet then tested Greif from distance soon after, but with their first shot on target, Lyon took the lead through Tolisso, who rounded off a blistering counter-attack with a first-time finish from Pavel Sulc’s cross to the back post.

The visitors continued to pose a threat in the final third and almost restored parity within four minutes of the restart, but Louchet was denied by the feet of Greif from close range.

But moments after Sulc fired wide from inside the box, Lyon doubled their advantage in the 64th minute when Nartey skipped past Charles Vanhoutte before curling a left-footed shot into the top-left corner.

Diop then dragged a shot wide of the mark as Lyon comfortably saw out the closing stages to ensure their title tilt continued to gather pace at a crucial part of the campaign.

Data Debrief: Nothing unlucky about 13 for Lyon

Having played later than both their title challengers, Lyon delivered a clinical showing under pressure as they edged the expected goals (xG) battle with a total of 1.32 from their nine shots to Nice’s 1.26 from their 10 attempts.

Lyon have now won their last 13 matches in all competitions, their second longest run since between August and November 2006 (14). They have also now won as many of their last seven Ligue 1 matches (W7) as they did in their first 15 this season (W7 D3 L5).

In addition, Lyon kept their 19th clean sheet in 33 matches in all competitions this season, their highest total at this stage of a season in their history. Among the top five European teams in 2025-26, Fonseca’s side have the best percentage of shutouts (58%).

But they have also been efficient in attack, especially at Groupama Stadium. Lyon have now scored in each of their last 28 home games in all competitions, their longest stretch since between February 1986 and October 1987 (36).
