French giants Olympique Lyonnais have officially announced the signing of striker Jimmy Briand from Stade Rennais. Briand, 24, has signed a four year contract with the Rhone Valley outfit and will officially join his new club on July 1. In a statement to the stock exchange, Lyon also announced that they had paid 6 million euros to Rennes for Briand’s services.
Briand, who has three caps for the French national soccer team, was part of Raymond Domenech’s 30 member shortlist but failed to make the 23 man squad for South Africa.
Briand has spent the better part of this decade at Rennes and made over a hundred and fifty league appearances for the club.
Lyon reached the semifinals of the Champions League and finished second in Ligue 1 last season.
