Maddison set for Leicester switch

Leicester City and Southampton had both agreed a fee with Norwich City for the transfer of James Maddison, and Sky Sports now report that the player has chosen Leicester.

The report explains Maddison’s decision as a result of his wish to go back to the Midlands area and be closer to Coventry, where he was born. The midfielder will undergo a medical at the Foxes’ Belvoir Drive training ground today (Monday).

Maddison, who played 46 games and scored 15 goals for Norwich in 2017/18, has been linked with a number of clubs in the last several months, but apparently Southampton and Leicester have shown enough initiative to get the deal done, and the player himself had the final say between the two possible destinations.

This is likely to spark speculations about the future of Riyad Mahrez. The 2015/16 PFA Playres’ Player of the Year has long been linked with a move to Manchester City and occasionally Liverpool, but so far Leicester stood firm in their decision to keep him. But Maddison is a player of similar characteristics and plays in the same role, and the Foxes’ decisiveness to secure his services might indicate that Mahrez might finally be allowed to leave.
