With the chance to mount a real European push in the second half of the season, a high flying Mainz side will travel to the WWK Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, coming off the back of another lackluster showing in their 2-0 defeat away at Borussia Mönchengladbach last weekend, many around the WWK Arena believe Augsburg could be in pole position for the drop this season. Still looking for their first win in 2019, Manuel Baum’s side have now lost their last three Bundesliga matches on the bounce and could finish the weekend in the bottom three. In fact, still without a win in their last nine attempts, a run that stems back to the 27th of October, Augsburg have also lost their last two matches at the WWK and are without a win in their last six home matches.

As for Sandro Schwarz’s Mainz side, coming off the back of a 2-1 win at home to Nurnberg last weekend, few would have expected the visitors rise in the second half of the season. Now unbeaten in their last four Bundesliga outings, the Reds will know that another victory on Sunday afternoon could see them move within touching distance of the Champions League positions. It will also be Maiz’s form on the road most impressing Schwarz. Putting three past Stuttgart in their last match away from the Opel Arena, Mainz’s defeat away at RB Leipzig last month is their only away defeat in their last five matches.
