Man City in pole position for Semedo

Manchester City are in pole position to sign Nelson Semedo from Barcelona, according to Sport.

The Portuguese fullback would apparently be a part of a three-way swap between Barcelona, City and Inter Milan. Barcelona remain keen on signing Lautaro Martinez from Inter and the Argentine striker is keen on joining them, but with funds tight at the moment due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Catalans are forced to find an alternative way of getting the deal done. They know Inter are interested in signing Joao Cancelo from City, so they are aiming for a swap deal – Semedo for Cancelo. Cancelo would then be used as a makeweight to reduce the amount of actual money they would have to pay Inter to get Martinez.

It would seem like a far-fetched idea in normal times, but the current circumstances are certain to have a big impact on the transfer market, and we could indeed see strange player swaps take place this year.
