Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has ruled out any signings in January for his club.
City spent just under £130 million on the transfers of defenders Nathan Ake from Bournemouth and Ruben Dias from Benfica, as well as winger Ferran Torres who arrived from Valencia. With these three additions, Guardiola believes his team is strong enough to fight for the trophy in every competition. City were reportedly keen on signing six-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi from Barcelona, but their pursuit of the 33-year-old superstar is apparently over, despite their chief operating officer reportedly stating recently that the club have the financial power to make the deal happen.
City won the domestic treble in 2018/19, but that fell to just the Carabao Cup last season as Liverpool took the Premier League, and Arsenal the FA Cup. The Champions League, held by Bayern Munich at the moment, remains an elusive dream for City and it remains to be seen if they will finally be able to lift the biggest trophy in club football this term.
