Manchester United have been frequently linked with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson in recent months. The 23-year-old midfielder, who joined Forest from Newcastle in 2024, has impressed and raised his stock significantly since, earning a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
According to The Times, United aren’t likely to bid for Anderson in January, but they will need him to replace Casemiro in the summer.
The Brazilian veteran will have turned 34 by then, and given that he earns around £18million per year at Old Trafford, the club aren’t expected to trigger the one-year extension of his contract which is at their disposal. Casemiro is therefore set to leave the 20-time English champions, and his journey will likely take him to Saudi Arabia, where he is believed to have several highly lucrative offers to choose from.
There is, of course, one thing that could throw a spanner into the works for United is competition. Liverpool are also said to be monitoring Anderson closely, and Newcastle would like to bring him back to St. James’ Park too.
If at any point Manchester United decided to cease their pursuit of Anderson, they will likely turn their attention to Brighton’s Carlos Baleba.
