Manchester United to move on from Alderweireld

Manchester United are prepared to move on from Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld as a transfer target, according to Manchester Evening News. It seems their ’scouts aren’t convinced’ about the centre-back.

Meanwhile, the fact that the Belgian has played a total of 108 Premier League games for Southampton and Spurs over four years and is considered among the best defenders currently in England poses a slight question about the validity of this claim. There is, however, a matter of some £20million that separates the two clubs’ valuations of the player, and therein might lie a more feasible reason for this change of heart at Old Trafford. He remains, according to the report, a target for United but is not a priority anymore.

Jose Mourinho already has five centre-backs at his disposal and he’s looking to add a sixth – without any intention of giving anyone up unless one of them asks to leave.

Besides Alderweireld, his potential targets include Raphael Varane, Jerome Boateng, Kalidou Koulibaly, Milan Škriniar, Alessio Romagnoli, Jose Gimenez and Caglar Soyuncu.
