Manchester United are still keen on making superstar signings, despite going for youthful talent during the summer, according to assistant manager Mike Phelan.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has apparently been promised the funds he needs to continue the overhaul of the squad left in place by the departure of Jose Mourinho a year ago, and his primary targets are the much-coveted pair of attackers – Erling Haaland of RB Salzburg and Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund. These two players could be placed in both categories; both are very young and highly talented, but they’ve also been impressive for their respective teams and have drawn the attention of top clubs around Europe.
In an exclusive interview with Evening Standard, Phelan insisted that a good balance between youth and stars fully formed is very important in terms of recruitment strategy.
The man who assisted Sir Alex Ferguson before his retirement and subsequently worked for David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho also claims that Solskjaer is the right man for the job and has the full backing of the club hierarchy.
