Mane was close to signing for Manchester United

On Saturday night, Sadio Mane will be in Madrid, starting in his second consecutive Champions League final. In 2018, it was the night in Kiev that was supposed to be glorious, but Real Madrid got in the way of their path to the trophy. Now, Liverpool will meet Tottenham and Sadio Mane will want to become European champion at last.

But funnily enough, the Senegalese star almost signed for Man United instead of Liverpool back in 2016.

“I was really, really close because I even met up with them,” he told the Mirror. “So I was coming, I was there and I spoke with the boss who was there before (Louis van Gaal). They made an offer, but in the same week, [Jurgen] Klopp called me.”

“He said: ‘I think it’s the right club. The right coach for you, and I think it’s better that you go to Liverpool’. For me I think it was the right time as well. I said, ‘I am going to Liverpool.’”
