Marco Verratti set for new PSG contract

Marco Verratti is set to sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain and remain in the French capital for four more years, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The feisty midfielder, who rose through the youth ranks at Pescara, joined PSG in the summer of 2012 for a reported fee of €12.5 million. Since then, he’s gone on to make a total of 398 appearances in all competitions under six head coaches so far, scoring 11 goals and assisting his teammates 61 times. Like the rest of the club, he’s still waiting to lift the Champions League trophy, but he has won the Ligue 1 title eight times, the French Cup and the French League Cup six times apiece, and the French Super Cup nine times.

The 30-year-old Italy international is currently under contract with PSG until the summer of 2024,  but they obviously see him as an important part of their plans for longer than that. The talks between the player and the club over the proposed new deal are moving towards a positive conclusion.
