Olympique Marseille have made their first signing of the summer window by bringing in young defender César Azpilicueta from Spanish side Osasuna. The announcement of the transfer was made by Osasuna on their official website. The fee that Marseille could end up paying for the 20 year old might be as high as 9.5 million euros. Azpilicueta has signed a four year contract with L’OM.
Azpilicueta is a product of the Osasuna youth system and made his league debut three years ago in April 2007 against Real Madrid. He was part of Spain’s victorious team at the UEFA Euro U-19 Championships in 2007 and was also named in Spanish coach Vicente del Bosque’s 30 member preliminary squad for the 2010 World Cup.
