Atletico Madrid signed Gelson Martins as a free agent after the Portuguese had his contract with Sporting Lisbon rescinded following an attack on the players by a radical group of fans. However, according to Marca, Sporting aren’t letting the matter rest and they’re preparing to take the matter to court in a law suit demanding a suitable transfer fee. And that, in their view, is no less than €100million – the amount set in the buyout clause of his rescinded contract.
Former Sporting president Sousa Cintra says the Portuguese club are confident of a potential trial going in their favor, revealing that they’ve rejected three offers from Atletico, the first one of €15million and the second of €17million. The final offer stood at €20million as the Spanish club were convinced Sporting would take what’s on the table, where as their final proposal amounted to €45million.
And now, the player himself demands €3.2million from Sporting, believing he is entitled to compensation from his former employer due to his contract being interrupted.
