Ally McCoist said Rangers were deservedly beaten 3-0 in their Old Firm clash with Celtic at Parkhead on Sunday.

The home side dominated throughout, and first-half goals from Charlie Mulgrew and Kris Commons, and a second-half strike from Gary Hooper ensured victory for the champions.

And with his side now 21 points behind their arch rivals, McCoist admitted his side were comprehensively beaten.

“The better team won on the day, we didn’t deserve to,” the manager told Sky Sports.

“We made it too easy for Celtic with the first two goals, and we certainly didn’t pass the ball well enough so it’s extremely disappointing.

“However, I have nothing but full admiration for every one of my players. They’ve been great. I wouldn’t wish our position on any other football team but my players have been fantastic throughout.”

The Ibrox manager was also keen to praise the fans, who have had to endure a troubled campaign with financial problems blighting their season and with no end to their money troubles in sight.

“The fans have also been a tower of strength throughout the campaign, but especially since we went into administration,” McCoist said.

“The players are very thankful for the support they’ve given us. We have three games left and we’ll keep fighting.”
