Milenkovic to United story picking up

Several days ago, reports emerged via Sky Italia about Manchester United being interested in Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenković.

Having spent some time on loan at Teleoptik in 2015/16, Milenković made 44 appearances for Partizan Belgrade before joining Fiorentina in 2017. The centre-back played 34 games in all competitions for the Viola so far, finding the opposition net twice.

United have long been in search of defensive reinforcements, though former manager Jose Mourinho targeted more experienced and ready-made players, such as Leicester’s Harry Maguire and Tottoenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld. The Red Devils have already conceded more league goals this season than during the entire course of 2017/18.

However, the club have always been in favour of signing a player that wouldn’t cost too much and could possibly be developed into a top class one over time, and with Mourinho gone now and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer temporarily in his place, they’ve seemingly identified the 21-year-old Serbia international as a suitable target.

The report of their interest by Sky has now apparently been echoed by La Repubblica, who add that the 20-time English champions have been in contact with Milenković’s agent.
