Mount shrugs off Real, Barcelona talk

Mason Mount of Chelsea has been tipped to join Real Madrid or Barcelona at a future point in his career, but at the moment, he is not interested in that kind of talk.

Speaking to Dutch outlet NOS, Mitchell van Bergen, who played alongside Mount during his loan spell with Vitesse Arnhem in 2017/18, declared that Mount had what it takes to reach the top, and he could see him play for Real or Barcelona one day.

Mount spent last season on loan at Derby County, where he played under Frank Lampard. The pair of them are now at Chelsea together, and the 20-year-old midfielder seems to have made the most of the opportunity presented to him by the transfer ban the club have been imposed with. Unable to sign new players this summer, Lampard has been forced to place his faith in the likes of Mount, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori, and all of them will have done him proud with the way they’ve been playing.

But Mount says he isn’t looking too far ahead, even though he is aware of what Van Bergen said. He has a long-term contract with Chelsea and remains focused on bringing success back to Stamford Bridge.
