Mourinho rules out Bruno Fernandes

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has ruled his club out of the race for Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes.

The in-demand midfielder was thought to be an object of interest and battle between Spurs and Mourinho’s former employers Manchester United over the course of the summer this year. Neither of the two clubs has had a season to be proud of so far, and while United still believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the man to make things right, Spurs have already dispensed with the services of Mauricio Pochettino and replaced him with the three-time Premier League winner Mourinho.

Christian Eriksen has reportedly informed the club of his wish to leave, either in January or when his contract expires in the summer, but it seems Mourinho won’t be replacing him with the 24-year-old Portugal international.

Fernandes recently signed a new four-year deal with Sporting, and speaking to Sport TV (as relayed by Mirror), the Spurs boss said that his compatriot is not the level of player they can afford to target at this particular moment.
