Moyes: Bale ‘close’ to signing for Manchester United

“I wanted him to be my first signing at Manchester United. We came close, spoke to him, but he had his heart set on Real Madrid and we couldn’t talk him out of it.

“It was a real disappointment because I saw him as a Manchester United type player.”

Those are the words of former Manchester United manager David Moyes, who confirmed that he was once hoping to bring Gareth Bale to Old Trafford. Moyes’ tenure with United wound up being a bit of a disaster, whereas Bale went on to sign for Real Madrid in a then-world record move from Tottenham Hotspur.

Bale is currently being linked with a move away from the Bernabeu, and ironically enough, Manchester United are once again considered to be the favourites to land his signature.

The Welshman is known for his pace, ability to surge forward and overall contributions to any and all teams he’s played for throughout his professional career.
