Moyes unsure on Everton´s European hopes after dramatic draw with Man City

David Moyes believes “it’s going to be tough” for Everton to qualify for Europe after their 3-3 draw with Manchester City.

The Toffees surged into a 3-1 lead in the second half after Thierno Barry scored either side of Jake O’Brien’s header, but Jeremy Doku snatched a point for City in the 97th minute.

There were just 284 seconds between Barry’s equaliser (67:55), which came after Doku also scored in the first half, and O’Brien’s header putting Everton 2-1 up (72:39).

However, Everton have now conceded stoppage-time goals in each of their last three games (D1 L2), much to the frustration of Moyes.

When asked about Everton’s chances of qualifying for Europe, Moyes told Sky Sports: “I’m not sure. I think it’s going to be tough.

“In the last couple of games we’ve lost games late on and [against City] we’ve drawn. It could and probably will have an impact on our final position.

“We let ourselves down because we defended the second goal so poorly. At half-time we would have taken the result because were hugely outplayed in the first half.

“The players made a great effort to get us in the game and really when we got to 3-1, we should be doing enough to see it out.”

Everton have had five goals scored by substitutes in the Premier League this season, with all five of those being netted by either Barry (three) or Beto (two).

Indeed, Barry became just the third substitute to score a Premier League brace against Pep Guardiola’s City side after Anthony Martial (October 2022) and Samuel Chukwueze (December 2025).

The striker has urged the Toffees to keep pushing ahead of their final three games of the season.

“It’s always a pleasure to play against a big team like Manchester City. I’m very happy to come on and score two goals,” Barry told Sky Sports.

“In the end, we had to settle for a draw so we need to keep pushing because there are three games left.

“We need to take it game by game and see where we are at the end of the season.”
