Growing reports in France broke exciting news for all Liverpool fans who are getting excited over the prospect of seeing a Lyon star Nabil Fekir potentially moving to Anfield this summer.

Exciting News for Reds

French media outlets Canal + and RMC Sport were the first ones to report that Liverpool have reached an agreement with Nabil Fekir over a summer transfer. It was stated that Reds reached an agreement with Lyon for a fee worth €70 million, whereas the reports claimed formed Liverpool manager Gerard Houlier played a key role in making it all happen.

Fekir rumours came at the moment when Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp announced that Reds will be pursuing reinforcements in key areas this summer. The German tactician has been hit with numerous injuries this season and wants to have more quality players in rotation.

Having already made arrangements to sign Naby Keita from RB Leipzig, Liverpool are expected to add more players to their midfield with Emre Can’s future still uncertain and Adam Lallana struggling to get fit.

Reports of Liverpool’s interest in Fekir come as little surprise knowing that Lyon star is widely regarded as an ideal replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barcelona in January.

What Would Fekir Bring to Anfield?

Nabil Fekir is a Lyon academy youth prospect who emerged as a key player for les Gones this season as the French outfit pursues a Champions League spot in Ligue 1.

The 24-year-old creative playmaker was appointed captain last summer with Bruno Genesio’s unilateral trust and confidence allowing him to spread wings and take his game to the new heights. Fekir scored 22 goals for Lyon this season and made 8 assists across all competitions.

Fekir is an agile midfielder who excels in the No.10 role where he uses his quickness and impressive technical ability to run at defenders and create goal chances for his teammates. Strong on the ball, Fekir is not easily dispossessed and can endure tough challenges from opposition players as he pierces forward.

Unpredictability is another strong suit of his. Fekir would often cut inside from the right wing and would never hesitate to have a go at goal. His impressive goal tally stands as enough of a proof.

Fekir would indeed be a remarkable signing for Liverpool, who would gain an extra spark in their already exciting squad. Fekir would complement Mane, Salah and Firmino perfectly with his flamboyant style of play and there is no doubt that the entire team would benefit greatly from his potential arrival.

How Realistic are the Rumours?

Nabil Fekir is widely expected to leave Lyon at the end of the season. The French club will not stand in their player’s way when he wishes to go but Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has moved to deny a reported agreement with Liverpool.

“No, there hasn’t been contact with Liverpool today. I am a bit surprised by this story.”, he said after Lyon’s 3-0 victory over Troyes this weekend.

Jurgen Klopp was equally surprised to find out about these rumours.

“During the game we agreed a deal? I would be surprised by that. No comment.”, he said.

The player himself offered a take on the entire story. Fekir says he in Lyon, for now and won’t be thinking of anything else until the end of the season.

“At the end of the season, we will see. The Champions League with Lyon? Of course, I want that. It’s the club of my heart, as you know.”, he said.

Nabil Fekir is expected to star for France at the World Cup in Russia and Lyon are likely to hold off on any decision making regarding his future until the showpiece tournament is over. The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona have all been linked with a move for the talented Frenchman and Liverpool will face tough competition for his signature.

Their chances of landing a deal for the highly-rated midfielder would surely improve if they manage to lift the Champions League trophy in Kyiv.

The Reds are 23/10 betting odds to beat Real Madrid on 26 May.
