Keylor Navas will not leave Real Madrid in January, according to Marca.
Having stood between the posts at the Santiago Bernabeu for four years and helped his team to three Champions League titles in that time, the Costa Rica international has lost his place to Thibaut Courtois, who arrived from Chelsea near the end of last summer’s transfer window.
Turning 32 on Sunday, Navas can hardly afford to stay a backup option for too long, but he’s not prepared to change clubs mid-season. Marca list several reasons for his decision.
He is due to become a father again in February, and as his personal plans for the future include living in Madrid after retirement, he doesn’t want to move away from the Spanish capital now as his family has built a life there. It is also believed no other club would match his current wages of €5milllion per year, as all those with such financial power already have a No.1 goalkeeper in place.
This suits Real fine, as they like having such a quality ‘keeper available to step in, should Courtois need a rest or get injured.
