Eddie Howe says Newcastle United’s confidence has “definitely shifted” after they came from behind to beat Tottenham 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.

Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak both netted for the Magpies in the first half after Dominic Solanke’s early opener for Spurs, extending Newcastle’s winning streak to six games in all competitions.

They have now won five consecutive Premier League matches for the first time since April 2023 and are up to fifth in the table, closing in on the four guaranteed Champions League places.

With morale high, Howe is sure Newcastle can continue building on their positive momentum.

“Confidence has definitely shifted, it naturally does when you win games,” Howe told TNT Sports. “It was something we were building to.

“Performances were good. We’re a very good team with good players. I’d like to think we can keep it going.

“We had to dig deep. It was a tough win but a massive one.”

Isak, who scored the winner in the 38th minute, has now netted in seven consecutive Premier League matches for Newcastle, becoming just the third player to do so after Alan Shearer (September-November 1996) and Joe Willock (April-May 2021).

The forward has also scored more Premier League goals against Spurs than against any other opponent (six).

“He was in the right place at the right time,” Howe added. “That’s an art.

“Another good cross from Jacob [Murphy]. He [Isak] will be disappointed with the one [chance] he didn’t take. He’s on a hot streak and long may that continue.”
