Newcastle United are interested in signing Tyler Dibling from Southampton in the summer transfer window, according to former Manchester United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown in Football Insider. Southampton will play in the Championship next season after getting relegated from the Premier League, and Newcastle are keen on taking advantage of this.
“Tyler Dibling is a promising young player,” Brown told Football Insider. “Personally, I’m not quite convinced he’s got enough about him at the moment to start for Newcastle every week and immediately improve the team.
“He’s got a good first touch, good control, can dribble and can pass it. But he hasn’t got that game-changing pace a lot of clubs are looking for in their wingers.
“That, from what I hear, is why clubs are debating whether to pay this massive asking price Southampton have put on him.
“Newcastle are one of those clubs who are interested, and I hear Eddie Howe is a big fan of his.
“If Southampton were willing to negotiate that price, I could see them making a move for him.
“But if they’re looking at upwards of around £50million, they can forget it, because there are other wingers Newcastle have looked at as well.
“I don’t doubt somebody will be willing to take a chance on him, but if you’re paying that sort of money, you want a player who can improve the team now.
“Tyler Dibling probably isn’t that player for a lot of the top Premier League clubs.”
