Nico Williams close to signing for Barcelona

Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams is close to signing for Barcelona in the summer transfer window, according to Fichajes. The report has claimed that William’s agent has met with Barcelona’s Sporting Director Deco, and that talks between the two parties have been positive.

Williams has a release clause of €58 million in his contract at Bilbao. Barcelona are planning to offload a few players in order to raise the funds to get a deal done for the 22-year-old Spain international winger, who scored five goals and gave five assists in 22 La Liga starts and scored five goals and provided two assists in 12 Europa League starts last season.

Barcelona won the La Liga title last season with 88 points from 38 matches, four more than second-placed Real Madrid. As for Bilbao, the Basque giants ended up fourth in the league table with 70 points from 38 games and will play in the UEFA Champions League in the 2025-26 campaign.
