No plans for new van Dijk Liverpool contract

According to a recent report from Liverpool Echo, there are no current plans for the Reds to offer defender Virgil van Dijk a new contract with the club. The belief was that he was on the verge of signing a new long term deal, but as it turns out, they are said to be quite some distance away from doing so – which has caused the Dutchman himself some confusion after seeing reports in the media concerning his future.

Virgil is quite easily one of the biggest and best defenders in world football today, and nobody is denying that. However, it seems as if Liverpool’s potential interest handing him a new contract could be coming as retaliation to bitter rivals Manchester United signing Harry Maguire from Leicester City for a world record fee.

One way or another, though, it doesn’t seem as if he’s going to be leaving any time soon.
