Handed the chance to move up to second in the Eastern Conference, North Carolina will host rock-bottom Swope Park Rangers on Saturday night.

Starting with the hosts, while North Carolina may have suffered an expected 4-0 defeat away at MLS outfit New York City FC in the US Open Cup in midweek, it has been a bright start to the year for Dave Sarachan’s men. Already sat in the play-off spots they have also been handed the chance to move within touching distance of Eastern Conference leaders Tampa Bay this weekend. Now winning two of their last three and unbeaten in America’s second-tier since the start of May, a huge part of their stellar start to the year has come thanks to their form on home soil. North Carolina are yet to taste defeat in any of their six matches in front of their own supporters.

As for the visitors, coming off the back of another lackluster display in their 0-0 draw at home to Charlotte Independence last time out, it has been a worrying start to the year for Head Coach Paulo Nagamura. Freefalling to the foot of the Eastern Conference and without a win in their last six USL outings, a huge part of Swope Park Rangers’ issues has come down to their performances on the road. Losing their last three matches on the road, Saturday’s visitors have also conceded a very worrying nine goals in those three defeats outside of Kansas.
